Artist Profile

Award-winning artist Eric Nye has been a professional painter since 1995.  He displays his work in a variety of private and public spaces as well as in many festivals and shows in the Midwest.  Eric is a Chicago native and currently resides and works in the South Loop. He will be showing his other body of work this summer throughout the Chicago area.  The new works are interactive art pieces made from wood which allow the viewer to rotate parts of the paintings to make thousands of new compositions.  For more info please visit his website at www.nye-art.com
 
 
Artist Statement
 
Since an early age I have been fascinated with the power of dreams and of the subconscious mind. My work seeks to explore the latent thoughts and desires that sit just below the surface of attention and focus.  This murky soup of memories and obsessions is in a constant state of flux.  I choose to express this movement in the organic shapes of my artwork.  The mind  at any given time may be consciously focusing on certain concrete ideas or images while at the same time it is transitioning to its next focus.  My paintings represent transitions of thoughts and images from their creation to a full realization and then  their descent into decay and dissolution.  By gazing into the dreams and obsessions of my subconscious mind the viewer sees their own imaginations and thoughts take hold as their conscious mind struggles to make order and classify what it sees in my work.
